The Alte Pinakothek is one of the oldest galleries in the world ordered by King Ludwig I of Bavaria in 1826 to host the Last Judgment (1617) by Ruben, one of the largest canvasses ever painted and other major art work from the Wittelsbach collection. Inaugurated in 1836, and very modern for its day, the building became the exemplary building for museums in Germany and all over Europe. It houses one of the famous collections of Old Master paintings.
